Permeate Pump (ERP 1000)
A non-electrical, energy-saving device which dramatically improves RO system efficiency.

For many years, the effectiveness of RO water treatment and purification has been well recognized. It as the efficiency of this process, however, that has remained troublesome. For example, typical RO systems may require up to four or more gallons of tap water to produce a single gallon of RO purified water. As water becomes an increasingly precious resource throughout much of the world, such wastefulness becomes increasingly unacceptable.

Aquatec Water Systems provides a remarkably innovative solution. The Aquatec patented Permeate Pump (ERP 1000) is a non-electrical device which uses only the hydraulic energy of the brine water (normally lost to the drain) to push additional purified water (i.e. permeate) into your pressure tank. This increased pressure allows the RO membrane to perform as if within an atmospheric tank system.

Use of a Permeate Pump improves membrane life, system performance, and provides other important benefits as detailed below. With an easy to use retrofit kit (snap-on mounting bracket & 5-ft. of tubing), the Permeate Pump can be incorporated into almost any existing undercounter RO system. Proper installation requires horizontal mounting (i.e. with both outlet ports in the highest position) to allow any trapped air to be purged automatically.

Features and Benefits:

Improves water quality through improved membrane efficiency.

In typical RO systems, increased tank pressure is offset by decreased pressure across the membrane. This decreased pressure causes a substantial decline in system performance and efficiency. A Permeate Pump enhanced RO system maintains full pressure across its RO membrane, even as tank pressure reaches up to 95% of line pressure. This insures both better water quality (maximum TDS reduction) and extended membrane life.

Improves product tank fill time by up to 65% In typical RO systems, increased tank pressure results in decreased recovery rates. A Permeate Pump enhanced RO system, by automatically minimizing back pressure, accelerates recovery rates (and reduces tank refill times) by up to 65%.

Reduces wastewater by up to 80%, extends component life In typical RO systems, between 3-5 gallons of wasted tap water (discharged to drain) are required to create a single gallon of purified RO water. This process is highly inefficient and reduces component life (prefilters, booster pumps, etc.) accordingly.

A Permeate Pump enhanced RO system, by reducing wastewater by up to 80%, helps conserve an important natural resource while extending component life. In other words, less water going through the system overall means less wastefulness and less component wear. Improves flow rates (tap pressure) through increased tank pressure. In typical RO systems, performance decreases as tank pressure increases. This limits most RO systems to approximately 60- 70% of line pressure in their tanks. A Permeate Pump enhanced RO system can achieve up to 95% of line pressure without impacting system performance (also requires use of our 90% hydraulic shut-off valve). This provides stronger, more reliable flow rates at your tap and also helps meet the high minimum pressure requirements often required for coffee makers, ice machines, etc.

Reduces system size and space requirements A Permeate Pump enhanced RO system delivers higher efficiency production of purified water. As a result, lower rated membranes can often replace larger ones to meet the same usage requirements. This enables smaller systems to help meet restrictive space requirements.

Summary of Key Features:

No electricity required, powered only by hydraulic energy normally lost to drain.

Improves water quality by insuring membrane efficiency.

Improves membrane life, prevents TDS creep.

Effective for inlet water pressures as low as 30 PSI.

Compact size for easy installation.

Technical Specifications:

Design:

The Permeate Pump is a non-electrical, hydraulically driven pump. It uses a reciprocating positive displacement, single action diaphragm to create dramatic efficiency improvements for RO based water purification. WETTED MATERIALS (PERMEATE SIDE): NSF-listed, FDA-approved thermoplastic, EPDM. NON-WETTED MATERIALS: Stainless Steel, Polypropylene.

Benefits to your System:

Faster production against tank pressure.
In an RO-system that uses the ERP-1000 Permeate pump, the RO-membrane always sees the full pressure across the membrane even if the tank is almost up to the same pressure. This way the system does not lose its performance. In a normal system you would for example have 60 PSI of line pressure. If the tank sees 30 PSI you only would have 30 PSI left for your membrane. In reality, this gives you less than 50% of your normal performance. In a permeatepump system you would still have 60 PSI across your membrane even on 50 PSI tank pressure.

No loss of recovery during the filling cycle.
Systems Using the Aquatec Permeate Pump Technology Dont Show Negative Changes In the System Recovery Rate. In household applications a shut off device must be installed. This prevents the production of small amounts each time you draw a cup of water which would cause TDS- Creep.

Better quality water out of your System.
As RO-Water quality improves, the higher your differential pressure on the membrane is, a system with a permeate pump always makes better water. Let us say that your membrane reduces 98% of the TDS in your water if you got 60 PSI across your membrane. On 30 PSI differential it will only do about 95%. In the permeate pump system, you always see full line pressure across your element, which gives you always the maximum quality water out of your system.

Saves up to 85% of the Water that normaly goes to drain.

How does the permeate pump work?
The ERP 1000 Permeate pump is using the energy of the brine Water of your RO-system to pump the permeate into your pressure Tank. It does not require electricity for that. It is just using hydraulic energy that normaly goes to the drain unused. This way, it isolates your Tank from the membrane and lets your membrane perform like in an atmospheric tank system.

How do you install the permeate pump?
The permeate pump can be installed into almost every existing undercounter RO-system. The main thing is, that you install it horizontal with both outlet ports in the highest position so that any air purges out automatically.
